Any version of Windows 10 would work just fine for you, as long as it is not anything less than Windows 10. The reason for this is that Microsoft no longer provides support for its older Windows versions. Different operating system updates such as security updates, virus protection updates, new .NET frameworks, and so on will only be released on Windows 10. To make sure your system is up-to-date and properly protected, you are better off getting a Windows 10 computer, or upgrading whatever computer you get to Windows 10.
macOS is the best alternative to Windows. macOS comes in multiple versions that can be recognized and differentiated by the number they carry. The latest version of the macOS is the MacOS 10. Other versions are MacOS 10, MacOS 9, and so on. With the macOS numbering system, the larger number always represents a more recent version than the smaller number.
64-bit or 32-bit?
All operating systems come with a particular type of architecture which is usually a 64-bit architecture or a 32-bit architecture. An operating system’s architecture determines how well it runs with a computer’s architecture as well as what kinds of apps and programs it can run.
